2018 HAPPY TAILS

THESE PIT BULLS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED THIS YEAR

MONTY

Picture
WENT HOME: 12/23/18
Monty is a 1 year 1 month old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Who Knows/ Mix. He was surrendered to the shelter when it became evident that he did not get along with livestock, and needs to go to a home and environment free of any livestock.   Monty gets along well with other dogs and  is currently in a play group full of other dogs. He would  be fine living with another dog, or as the single dog in the house. Monty has also shown no cat reactivity and does not care for cats when he walks past them or he sees them. This sweet boy was a little shy at first, but has quickly begun to warm up to people since he became available for adoption.  Monty will need a more active home, as he has energy and is a younger boy. This fantastic boy would do okay in a home with older children, but he is still a little shy for us to comfortably recommend younger kids.  Monty is working on perfecting his leash manners as well as learning his basic commands, until he is able to pass his Canine Good Citizen test. Monty is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccinations for $99. Monty has been adopted!

MISTLETOE

Picture
Went home: 12/18/18
Mistletoe is a 3 1/2 month old Pit Bull Terrier/ Shepherd/ Cattle Dog mix. This sweet boy was brought to the shelter in a transfer from a near by shelter crowded with dogs. Mistletoe can be a little shy at first, but warms up very quickly to softer people, especially if they have treats! Mistletoe is young enough that we can't say we have a definitive take on his personality, as it is still developing, but we do know in the right home we will blossom into the fantastic boy we know he will be. Mistletoe gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kids (as long as they are respectful of him). Because he is a puppy, he is  often played with which greatly helps socialize him with a variety of people. We are working with Mistletoe to learn some basic commands (such as sit, down, touch, and leave it)  and while  he has not yet mastered any of these yet (it's so hard for a puppy to when in a shelter) we learned he loves to sit pretty! This fantastic boy is  neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccinations for $149. Mistletoe has been at the shelter since 11/29/18.  Mistletoe has been adopted!

JANGLE

Picture
WENT HOME: 12/12/18
Jangle is a  2 1/2 month old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Shepherd/ mix.  He was brought into the shelter with a recent transfer of dogs from  a nearby overcrowded shelter. Jangle loves to play with toys, is super cuddly, and loves people. He can be a little shy at first, but  warms up easily to soft people , especially if tasty treats are involved!  Jangle is still young enough that we do not know all of his personality, as it has not fully developed, but we do know that in the right home he will grow into a fantastic, confident, and well mannered pup. Jangle would love to go into a home with another dog, active people, and maybe some kids to play with. His name suggests he would be the perfect pup for the holiday season and we agree, as long as the family adopting him understands the commitment that comes along with adopting a dog and will not think of him as a one-and-done Christmas present. Jangle is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $149. He has been at  the shelter since 11/29/18 and is ready to find his forever home!  Jangle has been adopted!

CLEMENTINE

Picture
WENT HOME: 12/12/18
Clementine is  a  2 year 8 month old American  Pit Bull Terrier mix. This gorgeous girl has come from a rough past, but you would never guess it unless someone told you. Clementine gets along great with other dogs, loves to play in large groups of dogs, and loves any and all people.  Clementine would do great in a more active home, who can give her the exercise she needs, as well as take her exploring . Clementine  is working on earning her Canine Good Citizen, and we are confident that once she has mastered her basics, as well as learned some manners for public spaces she will pass with flying colors. Clementine loves to cuddle, and her ideal home would have plenty of fluffy beds and couches for her to sleep on.  Clementine loves to play with toys as well, so her ideal home would have plenty of toys as well. Clementine is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for  $99. She has been at the shelter since 10/22/18.  Clementine has been adopted!

BLANCA

Picture
WENT HOME: 12/09/18
Blanca is  a  1 year old American Pit Bull  Terrier mix who was brought to the shelter as a stray.  No one came to claim  her,  so she became one of our dogs. Blanca can be a little shy at first, and may need a couple minutes to warm up to someone new. Once she gets to know you, this doll of  a pup will cuddle, play, and love on you beyond belief! She gets along with kids who are respectful of her, and would also be fine in a home with cats and other dogs. Blanca is working on building her confidence around new people and in new situations , and we are already proud of her progress. Blanca is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for  $99. Blanca has been at the shelter since  12/02/18.  Blanca has been adopted!

TARA

Picture
WENT HOME: 12/10/18
Tara is a 1.5 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was brought to the shelter as a  stray and  no one came to claim her. Tara is such an amazing girl! She is great with other dogs, loves to play in groups, and is able to be paired with other dogs who need the help and support of another dog. Tara would do great in a multi-dog home, and would also do fine with kids. She would do best in a more active and adventurous home, and would make the perfect hiking or running buddy. On cold nights, or any time you sit on the floor, Tara loves to cuddle. She thinks of herself as a lap dog, and at this point we can't disagree with her!  She loves to play with toys, but wants human attention more than any stuffed animal.  She is working on learning her basic commands, leash manners, as well as polite manners in social situations, and we hope to help her earn her Canine Good Citizen. Tara is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Tara has been at the shelter since  11/12/18.  Tara has been adopted!

RAPUNZEL

Picture
WENT HOME: 11/29/18
Rapunzel is a 6 year 2 month old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was found as a stray in a hiking area and no one came to claim her. She had recently had puppies, but there were no puppies with her when she was found. Rapunzel gets along great with other dogs, and loves to play with them. She loves to carry toys around with her as she plays, which always makes for an adorable picture. Rapunzel is an "A" dog because she scored so well on her behavior assessment. She would love to find a home with older or no kids, as she can get very excited and jump up. She also needs a home without cats, but would have no problem living with a doggie-friend.  Rapunzel has earned her Canine Good Citizen award, and is ready to show her new adopter the ribbon (and certification paperwork) she earned!  She LOVES to play with toys and would really like a home that can play fetch with her often, as well as give her plenty of stuffed animals to rip up. This great girl is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Rapunzel  has been at the shelter since 7/31/18. Rapunzel has been adopted!

COCO

Picture
WENT HOME: 11/28/18
CoCo is a 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier/ Boxer mix. This sweet girl was brought to the shelter when her owner could not care for her anymore. She loves to be around people and would do best in a home where someone is constantly around, as she hates being lonely. Since being with us, CoCo has passed her Canine Good Citizen test, and is now CGC certified! CoCo gets along well with other dogs and would do fine in a home with kids. She scored an "A" on her temperament  test, meaning she's ready to go home today and could be a first dog for anyone. This big girl weighs over 70 pounds and could stand to loose a couple pounds, as well. She would like to find a new home who will help her reach and maintain  a healthy weight. CoCo loves to go for walks, but is not too keen on running constantly. She is more of a couch potato. This great girl would also be an amazing store greeter and would love to go to work with someone. She is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. CoCo has been at the shelter since 7/22/18.  CoCo has been adopted!

TEVA

Picture
WENT HOME: 11/20/18
Teva is a 2.5 year  old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was brought to the shelter after her family could no longer keep her. She is an absolutely amazing pup that can appear shy at first, but easily warms up to anyone with a few hot dogs in their hand. She has previously lived with small dogs, and does great with large dogs as well. Teva  is as cuddly as they come and appreciates the occasional butt-scratch. She recently went on a doggy field trip for the weekend  to a foster home, and we learned so much about her!  This  amazing girl is house trained, loves stairs, doesn't jump on furniture, loves  carrying around toys, is a great hiking buddy,  has a higher energy level (like most pitties)  and  absolutely adores pupuccinos from Starbucks. If her gorgeous velvet coat doesn't make you fall in love immediately, her sweet disposition will. Teva is working on earning her Canine Good Citizenship, and we think she is very close! Teva is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on  her vaccinations for $99. She has been at the shelter since 9/28/18. Teva has been adopted!

NOLIE

Picture
WENT HOME: 11/19/18
Nolie is a  5 year  8 month old American Staffordshire  Terrier mix. This fantastic girl was picked up as a stray, and her owners never came to claim her. She has been with us before, and we think her owners tired of picking her back up (she has developed a bit of a record at the shelter). Nolie can be picky with some dogs, but when she gets along with another dog she's amazing. She really prefers the company of people, and will do anything to get attention and loved on. Nolie reminds us a lot of a pot bellied pig,  between  her weight (she is a bit chunky), her low rider body, and her constant snorts.  Nolie would love to find a home with a secure fence (we don't know how she kept getting out and she has made no attempt to get out while at the shelter)  a fluffy bed, and plenty of people to love on her. She  is great with kids as long as they are respectful, and would probably love to sleep on the bed with them. This girl is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Nolie has been at the shelter since 10/20/18. Nolie has been adopted!!

ACHILLES

Picture
WENT HOME: 11/05/18
Achilles is a 3 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found as a stray and  no one came to claim him. He loves to play with other dogs and would do great in a multi-dog household. Achilles has a rougher play style, so he needs a dog who has a similar play energy and can keep up with him. He is also great with kids, but needs to go to a cat-free home. Achilles would be an amazing hiking, running, mountain climbing, and any-other-activity partner. He is working on his basic commands, as well as leash manners in hopes of earning his CGC soon! We can't really explain why a boy this wonderful and amazing has been with us for so long, so we're currently thinking he's just waiting for the right home to come and find him. Achilles is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. He has been at the shelter since 8/4/18.  Can this boy be your new lucky  charm?  Achilles has been adopted!

SHAQ

Picture
WENT HOME: 10/30/18
Shaq is a 2 year  old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix.  Shaq was surrendered to the shelter when his previous owners were told  they could no longer have any dogs. He's fine with older kids, but he has too much energy for us to comfortably send him into a home with younger kids. He is a total love bug! Shaq has a bunch of energy, so he needs to go into an active home. If Shaq were to run track, he would run sprints, meaning he doesn't have the stamina that other dogs have.   He would be great for moderate hikes or short, but fast paced, runs. We have been working to find Shaq a play partner and he currently loves playing with other strong-willed females, as he can play a bit rough. Shaq also loves enrichment activities and puzzles while staying in his kennel, and he loves to play fetch with a tennis ball or frisbee.  He needs to go to a cat-free home, but is already house trained, crate trained, and trusted indoors loose unsupervised. He loves to cuddle and receive attention from people, and needs a home with many people who can love on him. Shaq is neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. He has been at the shelter since  8/23/18. Shaq has been adopted!!

REMI

Picture
WENT HOME: 10/13/18
Remi is a 2 year  old female American Bulldog mix. She came in a stray with two of her puppies, who have now been adopted. This beautiful love-muffin is as sweet as they come! She loves to give kisses and go on relaxing walks around the block, but also doesn't mind binge-watching a few episodes on Netflix if the weather is bad.  She can rock any bandana and  she knows it.  Remi gets along well with most other dogs, and would do well as an only dog or in a multi-dog household. We are excited to begin basic training and leash work with her soon, as we feel she will catch on quickly. Her hobbies include looking adorable, smiling at the perfect time (which is all the time), making people laugh, and more! All Remi needs in life in a prime spot to sunbathe and someone to share the rays with.   Remi is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99.   She has been adopted!

SHAYLEE

Picture
WENT HOME: 10/10/18
Shaylee is a 6 month  old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was picked up as a stray. This adorable girl loves to play and run around with all dogs and can hold her own! She is a very confident, happy-go-lucky girl who is currently working on her basic commands and polite leash manners. Shaylee is the ideal dog to train as she is super smart and motivated to make her person happy! She's a huge goofball, so expect to be smiling and laughing whenever she is around! It is so easy to fall in love with her and she never hesitates to form a bond. She is  an amazing dog that anyone would be lucky to cuddle with. Shaylee is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Shaylee has been adopted!

SID

PictureWENT HOME: 9/26/18
Sid is a 1 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Labrador mix. This fantastic boy was a transfer from another shelter, and is now ready to find his forever home. He gets along well with other dogs and would be fine living in a multi-dog household. Sid does need to go to a cat-free house, but would be fine living with kids. This confident boy is more mellow in energy level, but that does not mean he wouldn't enjoy a couple hour hike or long walk.  He  is working on learning his basic commands and is really coming along with them. Sid has also become our go-to dog for any female dogs we know who are struggling to get  along with other dogs, his energy and play styles are just that good!  This gorgeous boy loves to pose for the camera and would  love to go to a home where he will fill their camera roll. Sid has been neutered, micro-chipped and is up to date on his vaccinations for $99. He has been at the shelter since 8/07/18. Sid has been adopted!

GYPSIE

PictureWENT HOME: 8/30/18
Gypsie is a 4 year 10 month old American Bulldog/ Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered because her and the other dog in the household were not getting along. She's great with kids and her previous owners say she's good with cats as well. Gypsie is not good at initially meeting other dogs, if a dog were to run up to her she would not react very well. We have been able to get her into some play groups with other dogs and she does fantastic. She just needs time to figure other dogs out and make sure she isn't getting in her own way. Gypsie is house trained, crate trained, and trusted indoors loose unsupervised. This sweet girl is also a pro at playing fetch. Gypsie has a similar reaction to strangers that she has to other dogs. If a person comes up too fast and just grabs at her (who does that anyway!) she gets a little nervous. But if they approach slower and let her know they are coming  and give her a treat she is best friends with them. Gypsie is working on earning her Canine Good Citizens which we think she is super close to. She has all of the basics down, it's just refining everything as well as leash manners and politely greeting a stranger. Gypsie is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Gypsie has been adopted!

PEANUT

PictureWENT HOME: 8/26/18
Peanut is a 3 year old American Pit Bull terrier mix. This sweet girl was a transfer from the Southern Ute Reservation animal control office. She can be a little picky with other dogs, but has gotten much better about playing with other dogs since she got here on 6/13/18. Peanut came in during the huge 416 fire, so she was not available for adoption because the shelter was closed. She is now looking for her new and forever home. Peanut's ideal home would know that she loves to run around and play, she would really like to go on long hikes and adventures, she's a super sweet goofball, and she makes a great camera model. Peanut is working on earning her Canine Good Citizens award, and is working to improve her leash manners so she can successfully complete the test. Peanut is a little bit stressed out being in the shelter and we are having a harder time keeping weight on her. She loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls, and is a great cuddle buddy. Peanut is spayed, micro chipped and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Peanut has been adopted (and is now known as Molly)!

CURTIS

PictureWENT HOME: 7/28/18
Curtis is a 8 month old American Pit Bull Terrier puppy. He was brought in as a stray and no one came to claim him. Boy, do we love this dog! He has tons of energy, most of which comes with his age, but is super good about using it well. Curtis would be a great running, hiking, camping, paddle boarding, mountain climbing pup. He gets along great with other dogs, loves to play and is super friendly to everyone he meets. Curtis also knows sit, down, shake and crawl. We are working with him to get better leash manners, as well as break his habit of jumping on people. Once we feel Curtis has mastered these tasks we will run him through the Canine Good Citizens test. This amazing boy would do great in a variety of active homes and would love to live with another dog or two. Curtis is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Curtis has been at the shelter since 7/05/18 and would love to go to a new family today! Curtis has been adopted!

CUPCAKE

PictureWENT HOME: 7/22/18
Cupcake is a 4 year 4 month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered because she had a conflict with the little dog in the household, and the other dog in the house was beginning to pick on her. She came in with recent scars and scabs from the other dogs in the home, and it was clear to us that Cupcake was in need of a new home. She is good with dogs her size, but due to her history we are recommending no cats in her new home. She is already house trained,, crate trained and her previous owners trusted her indoors loose while being unsupervised. Cupcake can be a little shy at first, which is why we are asking she goes to a home with calm and older kids only. She needs a home who understands her and is okay with her being a little uncomfortable around new and loud people. Cupcake loves us, so she doesn't have a thing against loud people but needs a little time to adjust to them. She also loves the water, and would make a great hiking and adventure buddy. Cupcake is working on earning her Canine Good Citizen Certificate, the only thing holding her back right now is she is uncomfortable standing still while people move around her and she takes a while to warm up to strangers. She has no issues walking past other dogs and has all of her basics down. Cupcake is spayed micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Cupcake has been at the shelter since 6/19/18. Cupcake has been adopted!

MOCHA

PictureWENT HOME: 7/19/18
Mocha is a 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier/ Boxer mix. She was found as a stray and no one came to claim her. Mocha is one of the sweetest and slobbery dogs we have right now! She loves any and all people she can meet. This sweet girl also gets along great with other dogs and is paired with another dog in her kennel right now. She hasn't been with us long, but we are working her basic commands to help her improve the ones she already knows as well as learn some new tricks. Mocha has recently been spayed, micro-chipped and she is up to date on her vaccinations for $99. This sweet girl would do well in a variety of active homes and families, as long as they make sure to include her in adventures and activities. Mocha has been waiting to find her forever home since 7/13/18. This sweet and smiling girl has been adopted!

LUCY

PictureWENT HOME: 7/9/18
Lucy is a 1 1/2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. This giant 70 lb girl was a return because her previous owners discovered she liked chickens and ducks a little too much. While she might enjoy eating poultry, she is fantastic with other dogs! We can not say for sure, but are recommending Lucy go to a home without cats. This sweet girl has gotten a little 'lazy' in her basic commands and manners but we are working to help her remember the behaviors she knew perfectly last time she was here. Due to special circumstances, we did not get any surrender paperwork on Lucy so we can not promise any house behaviors on this sweet girl. Lucy is just a big love bug and is looking for a family who will appreciate that and will return the love to her, She  is already spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Lucy has been at the shelter since 6/27/18. Lucy has been adopted!

PRINCESS

PictureWENT HOME: 7/7/18
Princess is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/Shepherd mix. She can be a little shy at first, but is a great dog once she warns up. We got Princess from a foster family who had her for a couple of months until she could come here to find her new forever home. Princess gets along with other dogs, but we are asking she goes into a home with older kids because she can get nervous with newer people moving fast and loud noises. She loves to go explore and would be an amazing adventure dog. She has pretty good leash manners and we are working to make them even better, but we recommend she has a martingale (no-slip) collar on her at all times. We can tell she has an old habit of throwing her head down and trying to pull out of her collar. We do not know how Princess is with cats. Princess also loves to play with stuffed animals. and really enjoys playing with toys. Princess is working on confidence building as well as learning some basic commands. She is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Princess has been at the shelter since 6/06/18. Princess has been adopted!

TARZAN

PictureWENT HOME: 6/26/18
Tarzan is a 1 1/2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Husky mix. He was surrendered because there were conflicts between him and the other dogs in the household. Tarzan is the 3rd puppy of his litter we have gotten at the shelter within the past 6 or 7 months. Him and his brothers are true examples that spay and neuter is important. Tarzan is house trained and trusted indoors loose unsupervised. This sweet boy gets along great with other dogs and is a super sweet guy. We are working with Tarzan to help him learn his basic commands which he is picking up very quickly on. We would love for Tarzan to go to a home that is very active and willing to include him in many hikes, walks, runs, and other activities of that type. This great boy is now neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Tarzan has been at the shelter since 6/17/18. Tarzan has been adopted!

SKYLAR

PictureWENT HOME: 6/19/18
Skylar is a 7 month old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Chihuahua mix. Crazy breed mix, right? This confident puppy was listed on Craig's List when a citizen picked him up and dropped hi off at the shelter to make sure he would find a responsible and good home. Skylar does NOT like living at the shelter, so he has been spending lots of time at Prana Dogs Rehabilitation center, which is run by the shelter trainer. He can be a little punky with other dogs, but with numerous corrections from other dogs Skylar has learned how to play more appropriately. He would do best in a home with another confident dog who can make sure Skylar knows the rules and doesn't get away with any behaviors he shouldn't do. This cute little boy is about 35 lbs. and would do well in a home with an owner who has a similar personality to Skylar. He is now neutered. micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Skylar has been adopted!

DONNY

PictureWENT HOME: 6/7/18
Donny is a 1 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found as a stray in Kayenta and brought to LPCHS to find a new home. He loves people, is more on the squatty side (we call him a pocket pittie) and is going to be a great dog for someone in the future. He has had some dog reactivity issues, but we have been working on them and he has made some great progress. Donny even plays with one of our other pitties! . We are recommending Donny live with no cats based on his history, but are willing to do a cat test if that is needed to complete a potential adoption. Donny loves stuffed animals and would like to go to a home that can give him an ample supply of toys. He would have no problem being the only pet as long as he gets enough love and attention from potential owners. Donny has been neutered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated: his adoption fee is $99. Donny has been at the shelter since 4/30/18. Donny has been adopted.

CLEO

PictureWENT HOME: 6/2/18
Cleo is a 2 1/2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered because the family was moving and they weren't able to give her the time and attention she deserves. She is good with kids, but needs to be the only pet in the household. She does have lots of energy, and would make a fantastic running partner. She loves to be pet and really enjoys attention, but can be a little nervous at first, Cleo is house trained and trusted indoors unsupervised. She is very sweet and loves to play with toys along with hanging you with people. Cleo is also Canine Good Citizens certified! Cleo is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Cleo has been at the shelter since 3/30/18. Cleo has been adopted!

BEBE

PictureWENT HOME: 5/26/18
Bebe (formerly Bonnie) is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered because her previous owners were moving, and they could not take her with them. She is said to be good with other dogs, cats, and kids, but we have not seen her interact with any recently (when we were last there, she was surrendered that day so we let her settle in and did not want to stress her out even more). Bebe is also house trained, and would be a great running and hiking partner. She needs to get back in shape a little bit, but should have no problem with that if she has a dedicated owner and firm meal plan. She loves to play with toys, and really enjoys being around people who are willing to pet and cuddle with her. Bonnie is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Bebe has been at the shelter since 5/12/18. More updated information coming soon! Bebe has been adopted!

BUBBA

PictureWENT HOME: 5/20/18
Bubba is a 1 year old Staffordshire/ Mastiff/ Retriever mix. Quite a combination of breeds, are we right?! Bubba was returned to the shelter because he has a little bit of separation anxiety, and needs someone who is willing to crate him and work with him. Bubba is great with other dogs and is very friendly to other dogs. We do not know about cats for Bubba. This amazing boy would love to go to a more experienced home to make sure he doesn't get returned again without being worked with. We are working Bubba on his basic commands as well as his leash work. This good boy loves to be pet, but leans on the more active side of pups. He would love to find a family with a sililar mindset who would take him running, hiking, and on many more fun adventures. Bubba is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Bubba has been at the shelter since 5/110/18 and has recently been adopted!

DARLING

PictureWENT HOME: 5/11/18
Darling is a 1 1/2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier/ Bulldog mix. While she's pretty muscley, her legs are VERY short. If we had to guess, they would be under 12 inches tall. Darling loves people, especially when she can lay on then and they pet where her ears are supposed to be (someone cropped them when she was a puppy). Darling stands up to her name, and is a total goofball. She loves to hang out with people, and is good with other dogs and cats as well. Darling came to us as a stray, and no one came to claim her. She has an adorable under bite, and grunts like she was raised around pigs. As we just mentioned, Darling has very little legs, and is very very muscular. In fact, if she roles onto her back, she needs a little help getting back to her feet, she's kind of like a turtle in that sense. Darling also can struggle with jumping up on ledges, so she needs someone who can help her when she needs help, and will also laugh with her when she's being a dork. She loves to spread her back legs out (we have nicknamed these pittie legs) and lay on you. She should have no problem with little kids, as long as they are nice to her, respect her, and pet her a lot. Darling has been spayed, micro-chipped, and is up to date on her vaccinations for $99. She has been at the shelter since 5/6/18. Darling has been adopted!

KIWI

PictureWENT HOME: 5/6/18
Kiwi is a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was found as a stray within the Navajo Nation and brought to the shelter. She is one of the sweetest girls we have ever met, and that's saying something. She was amazing when we took her photo, and has no problem getting dressed up or posing for pictures. She is pretty new, so we do not know too much about how she is with other dogs or cats, but we will know soon. She loves to chase bugs, butterflies, and bees. Kiwi is on the smaller side, about 40 lbs when around a good weight. She loves to cuddle, get pet, and is a friend to anyone who looks at her. She loves hot dogs to! We have begun to work with Kiwi on some basics, it is clear she hasn't had any level of training. We think Kiwi would be great in a home with kids, and would be a great fit for a family looking for a pup. She is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Kiwi has been at the shelter since 4/14/18. Kiwi has been adopted!

ADDA

PictureWENT HOME: 4/21/18
Adda is a 10 month old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Heeler mix. She is super sweet, and would make a great dog for a variety of people. She was surrendered due to land lord issues, and is ready to find a new home where she does not have to worry about being dropped off at the shelter again. Adda is amazing with other dogs, and she helps some of the shelter dogs learn how to play properly, or learn how to play if they seem to have forgotten. She is great with cats and kids as well, and would love to be a family dog. Adda is still a puppy, so she needs someone who will laugh when she's goofy and remind her to be polite when she needs it. She hasn't been here long, but we can already get a good feel for her personality. Adda would love to find a new home, she has been spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Adda has been at the shelter since 4/17/18. Adda has been adopted!

TATER

PictureWENT HOME: 4/10/18
Tater is a 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. He was found as a stray and no one has come to claim him. Tater is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met, which is really saying something. He loves to cuddle and get his bell rubbed and be pet, really any kind of attention from a person will do. You can't really see it from this picture, but he is one of the stockiest and squattiest dogs we have right now. Tater weighs about 62 lbs. and is a really strong boy so we are strongly pushing him for great leash manners. Tater also snorts A LOT which is super funny and pretty cute! He needs to be the only dog in the home, but would be fine with kids and a bunch of people. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Tater has been at the shelter since 4/03/18. Tater has been adopted!

BELL

PictureWENT HOME: 3/31/18
Bell is a 1 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Retriever/Mix. She probably has multiple different breeds in her. Bell was returned because she did not fit in with her previous family, specifically their other dog when they were fed together. Bell is GREAT with other dogs, she is paired with another dog in her kennel, plays amazing in a group, and will even share her toys with other dogs. She just needs to be fed separate from other dogs, which we recommend for EVERY multi-dog household. Bell loves people and is great with kids as well. She can be a little shy at first, but playing a game of fetch or giving her some treats helps her warm up quickly. We are working with Bell on her basic commands, leash manners, and confidence skills in busy environments, such as the humane society thrift store. She loves to play with any and all toys, but is great with sharing them with everyone. Bell has been spayed, micro-chipped, and is up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Bell has been at the shelter since 2/23/18. Come in, meet Bell, and adopt her! Bell has been adopted!

KISSIE

PictureWENT HOME: 3/31/18
Kissie is a 5 year 1 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered because her owner was moving and unable to keep her. She gets along well with other dogs, can live with cats and would make a great cuddle bug. She is okay with older kids, but younger children make her nervous. She does get anxious when left alone, so she needs to be kenneled or she will chew up anything she can, including cats. Kissie is house trained and crate trained. as well. She loves to snuggle and cuddle more then she likes to run and hike. She does have arthritis in her knees, so she is on supplements to help the pain. She knows many commands such as sit, down, leave it, shake, come, and salute. We are helping her remember her leash manners, and we hope to get her Canine Good Citizens certified. Kissie would do great in a calmer or more mellow home with a nice couch and dog bed to lay on. She is already spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Kissie has been at the shelter since 3/17/18. Kissie has bee adopted!

HARLEY

PictureWENT HOME: 3/28/18
Harley is a 1 year old Husky/ Pit Bull/ Shiba Inu mix. Interesting, right? We think Harley is from the same litter as former PFP dog Elias (can be found on happy tails page) mostly because they look the exact same, came in labeled the same breed by former owners, and are the same age. Harley was surrendered because his owner did not have enough time to give him the care and attention he deserves. He is what we are thinking of as a perfect dog. He's great with other dogs, cats, and kids. He is also house trained and crate trained. Harley is working on his basic commands, and we hope once he masters these along with a few other behaviors he'll be able to pass his CGC. He loves treats and playing with toys. Harley would do best in an active family, as he's still a young pup with a bunch of energy. He is still pretty green, he hasn't had a ton of training prior to being here. Harley is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Harley has been at the shelter since 3/17/18. Harley has been adopted!

MICAH

PictureWENT HOME: 3/23/18
Micah is a 3 year old American Pit Bull/ Shar-Pei mix. He was a transfer from Soul Dog Rescue, where he was found in an Animal Control Office on the Navajo reservation. He can be a little picky with his dog friends, but still plays in  a group of dogs. Micah is super sweet, and is a total cuddle bug. Micah came in with what is known as cherry eye. Our shelter La Plata County Humane Society operated to fix this so Micah is now cherry eye free.  Micah is a great dog,, but needs help with being comfortable around a bunch of people or being in a new area. He is still very shy when in a busy environment, such as the humane society thrift store, and we are working him a lot in there right now. He is also working on some basic behaviors, such as sit, stay, come, and leave it.  He is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Micah has been at the shelter since 12/21/17. Micah has been adopted!

LILLY

PictureWENT HOME: 3/23/18
Lilly is a 1 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was found in the Bisti Wilderness area, and was brought to the shelter by some kind people who knew we would be able to find her a new home. When they originally found her, the shelter was very full and they were asked to hang onto her for a couple days until more dogs got adopted and we had a space for her. While they were temporarily keeping her, they fell in love and were able to learn a lot about this super sweet girl. Lilly has no problems with cats and absolutely adores kids. She did, however, have a little problem living with their small dog. She was fine when on a walk, but found some difficulties in the house. This could be caused by many factors, Lilly was in heat when they found her, and their current 3 dogs can be a bit unbalanced when it comes to adding other dogs into their house. Once Lilly arrived at the shelter, she was put into a play group with numerous dogs. Her main "problem" right now is she does not know how to play with other dogs, so she gets a little nervous when other dogs run around or come up to her. She is quickly learning and we think she will have no problem pretty soon. This super sweet girl loves to cuddle with any and everyone. She sometimes thinks she is a lap dog, and has no problem crawling up onto you lap. She would thrive in a home who loved to cuddle and snuggle with her.  Lilly has since been spayed, micro-chipped, and is now up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Lilly has been at the shelter since 3/12/18. Lilly has been adopted!

MARIO

PictureWENT HOME: 3/23/18
Mario is a 5 year 2 month  old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Shar Pei mix. This amazing boy was returned to the shelter because he was showing some discomforts around their kids, including all of the children that walked by his house when leaving or going to school. He was originally transferred in from a rescue group in the Navajo Reservation, where he evidently did not have the best life. Mario has made some progress with confidence building, but still has a long way to go. He would do best with a dog experienced family, and someone who is willing to show lots of patients with him and how he learns to handle himself in the world. Mario is good with other dogs, but can be picky in some situations. With people he is comfortable with (Which includes us at PFP) he is an amazing dog. He does this cute little dance when you walk past his kennel, and occasionally howls when super excited. Mario would do best in a home with another strong and confident dog, he tends to learn towards other dogs for support during a situation that makes him nervous. Mario is house trained and crate trained, but may chew up some stuff when left alone for a while. HE does need to go to a kid-free home, but has no problems living with cats. Mario is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. He has been at the shelter this time since 3/13/18. Come by and visit Mario, he's one of the sweetest boys you'll meet! Mario has been adopted!

MELODY

PictureWENT HOME: 3/5/18
Melody is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was returned to the shelter because she did not like the grandchildren of the family. Melody is great with other dogs, but needs to go to a kid-free home. She is house trained and trusted indoors unsupervised. Melody has a medical condition known as epilepsy, so it is very important she gets medication every day to prevent and manage her seizures. If she does not get this medication, it can be life threatening. Because of this, many people have overlooked her, which we think is unfair towards her. Melody is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. She has been at the shelter since 2/24/18. Melody has been adopted!

GOTTI

PictureWENT HOME: 2/24/18
Gotti is a 4 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix, who came from a cruelty case on the reservation. He was found with a chain embedded in his neck, but it has since healed. . He is very food motivated and loves to eat. Gotti is still stressed out in the shelter environment, and can be very reactive. He recently pent some time at the shelter trainer's house, where we discovered what an awesome dog he is. Gotti gets along great with other dogs when he is out of the shelter, but is still very stressed out when he is at the shelter. Gotti is learning some basic manners, as well as appropriate leash manners and walking past other dogs. He is really sweet once he is comfortable with where he is. Gotti is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Gotti has been at the shelter since 1/05/17, but hasn't been up for adoption until the end of January. Gotti has been adopted!

SADIE

PictureWENT HOME: 2/24/18
Sadie is a 1 year 4 month old Pit Bull Terrier/ Rough Collie/ Mix. There is a high chance that multiple breeds make up the Sadie we know and love. She was surrendered to the shelter because her previous owner did not have time to care for her or work on some of her behaviors. Sadie is what we call a "green" dog, meaning she has a great temperament but has not had any training yet so she's got a lot to learn. Sadie can be a little shy at first, but we are working on her socialization and she is getting better every day. She is also learning some basic commands, as well as how to properly behave on a leash and walk past distractions appropriately. She is great with kids of all ages (she temporarily lived with toddlers and was awesome) but needs to go to a home without cats. Sadie has not yet mastered the art of potty training, but is a quick learner and we believe that it should be fairly simple for her new owners to teach her. She is great in the car, and loves to be taken on rides. Sadie is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Sadie has been at the shelter since 2/9/18. Sadie has been adopted!

ARNIE

PictureWENT HOME: 2/20/18
Arnie is an almost 3 month old Pt Bull Terrier mix. He was found as a stray and no one has come to claim him. This sweet boy is shaping up to be a good sized dog and we are thinking he is going to be on the heavier side of pitties. He is great with other dogs and kids, and should have no problem with cats. He already has a great automatic sit and is working on down and easy leash manners. Since he is a puppy, there is very little we can say about his personalty in the long run, but right now he's an awesome happy go lucky pup. Arnie is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccines for $149. Arie has been adopted!

ROLO

PictureWENT HOME: 2/17/18
Rolo is a 3 year old American Pit Bull terrier mix. This sweet boy was found as a stray and no one came to claim him, so he is not up for adoption. Rolo is a sweet boy once he gets to know you, and loves to cuddle and be pet. He is ok with other dogs, but needs to be introduced in a special way or he will become stressed out and does not do well. Some people say he has a face only a mother could love, but he has a fantastic personality once he's comfortable around you. Rolo loves to lay in the some and would be well suited as a couch dog. He is working on learning some new commands, and then we will hopefully t=run hi through his CGC test. Rolo is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Rolo has been at the shelter since 1/06/17. Rolo has been adopted!

FOREST

PictureWENT HOME: 2/16/18
Forest is a 10 month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. This amazing boy was found as a stray and no one came to claim him. Forest is fantastic with other dogs and loves people as well! He received an "A" on his temperament test, meaning he is ready to be adopted and would fit in a variety of homes. Forest would love to go to an active home, one that would take him on lots of walks, runs and hikes. He would not do well as a dog who is given little exercise or is left alone for extremely long periods of time. Forest is learning his basics and maintaining his good leash manners. Once we are confident in this guy and he has learned some harder skills, we will work to get him his Canine Good Citizen award. Forest is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99. Forest has been at the shelter since 1/25/18. Forest has been adopted!

ELIAS

PictureWENT HOME: 2/11/18
Elias is a 1 year old Pit Bull Terrier/Husky/ Shiba Inu mix. While that might sound like a bizarre mix, most of it is based off of looks and behavior traits similar to those breeds. Basically, we have very little idea of what his breed heritage is. Elias was brought to the the shelter when his previous owner abandoned him in his old apartment, until the landlord found him. The landlord was able to care for him temporarily, but later realized he needed to surrender Elias. While he was caring for this pup, he learned that Elias was crate trained, and in the process of being house trained. Elias loves to play with toys, especially balls. He is also great with other dogs and would do great in a multi-dog household. Elias can be a little nervous at first, but warms up quickly, even quicker when treats are involved. This amazing boy loves to have his ears rubbed, and will lean on you while you rub them. He has been neutered, micro-chipped and is up to date on his vaccines for $99. Elias has been at the shelter since 1/27/17. Elias has been adopted!

SPOCK

PictureWENT HOME: 2/7/18
Spock is a 2 month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix.. This sweet boy was transferred from a local animal rescue organization called Durango Animal Connections. Spock got his name after a birth defect which caused his front right paw deformed. While this is not a major health problem for him, he is a little slower and more clumsy then some other puppies (what puppy ISN"T clumsy though). Spock is one of the cutest and snuggliest puppies we have met in a while, and he is determined to not let his paw slow him down. Spock is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $149. Spock has been at the shelter since 2/01/18. Spock has been adopted!

DAISY

PictureWENT HOME: 1/26/18
Daisy is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Heeler mix. She was a transfer from the Southern Ute Animal Control office. She is good with other dogs, and is more of a rough and rowdy player. Daisy is super sweet, and is working on mastering her basic commands, as well as appropriate leash manners and being polite in a crowd of people. Once she has these down, we would love to get her CGC certified. She would do good in a home with older children, ones who respect her and don't pull her tail or grab her ears. Really, what dog wants that? This sweet girl is very excitable and is still learning how to adjust to a shelter environment. She was spayed when she came in, and is now micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations for $99.  Daisy has been adopted!

TAZ

PictureWENT HOME: 1/25/18
Taz is a 4 year old American Pit Bull Terrier/ Heeler mix. This big boy is very friendly, and loves to meet new people. He is a return to the shelter because his owner passed away and no one could care for him. He was brought in with another dog who he is very attached to, but she was adopted and he was not. He misses her very much and cries a lot, which is understandable for him seeing he just lost his owner and his best friend and lifelong playmate. We are recommending Taz go into a home with an existing dog, preferable female. He has no problem with males, but his old friend was a female which we hope might help him feel better.  He is great with other dogs, and loves to play with groups. This big boy is 80 pounds of sweetness, although with a little diet he could slim down to 75 pounds. Taz loves to play with the ball and other toys, and is currently refreshing his basic manners. Once he has these mastered, we hope to CGC Taz. He is already neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. Taz has been at the shelter since 1/02/18. Taz has been adopted!

This sweet boy loves to cuddle with people, and would be a great family dog. He loves to play toys and is just a silly and goofy boy. Cash is great with other dogs, and is getting very confident around them but we do not know about cats. He loves to roll around in the dirt and play with people. Cash hasn't been here for long, and doesn't need to stay any longer. This sweet boy is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99.. Cash has been at the shelter since 1/05/18. Cash has been adopted!

He is ready to find a new home and would love to be adopted for the beginning of the New Year. He is also crate trained, but is not quite yet house trained. We are working on his basic commands, and hope to get him CGC certified, if he is not adopted soon. He is micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations for $99.  Thor has been at the shelter since 12/19/17. Thor has been adopted!

CALLIE

PictureWENT HOME: 1/11/18
Callie is a 6 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was returned to the shelter because she needed to be with people more then her owners could offer, and kept escaping. Callie is a very sweet girl with a developed personality. She can be a little picky with her doggy- friends, and tends to be a rough and rowdy player. She also needs to go to a cat-free home, but would love to go to a home with kids! She is already house trained, and is trusted indoors unsupervised for a reasonable amount of time. Callie has a leaky bladder, so she is on medication to prevent her from accidentally peeing everywhere. She is Canine Good Citizens certified, and has been working on some fun tricks to know, such as shake and high five. Callie is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. She is great with other dogs, and loves people of all ages and sizes. She can be a little nervous in new situations, but with confidence building and socialization, she should have no problem meeting the world. Chiquita would be a great dog to add to a multi-dog household. She loves to play with people and her toys, as well as other dogs her energy level. This rambunctious girl would love to go home soon, to a new home where she can enjoy life and represent what true pit bulls should be.

LUNA

PictureWENT HOME: 1/7/18
Luna is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered when her owner was arrested and went to jail. Because of this, we do not have any surrender paperwork on her, and can only guess about her house manners. She was surrendered with 2 other dogs, and would be fine going home with or without them. Luna is good with other dogs, but we are not sure about cats. She is learning her basic commands, and we hope she will pass her CGC once she has mastered her commands. She is super sweet, and is confident enough to not be nervous in new situations, but not overly confident. Luna would love to have a home to call her own, and is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99. Luna has been at the shelter since 11/09/17, but was not up for adoption until the middle of December. Luna has been adopted!

LOLO

PictureWENT HOME: 1/6/18
Lolo is a 1 1/2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her with 2 other dogs. She was originally a court hold due to her owners situation, so we did not get any surrender paperwork. Because of this, we do not know much about her house mannors, but we do know she is smart. Lolo is great with other dogs and is super submissive and playful. We are working on her with basic commands, and hope she will pass her CGC test once she has her commands down. Lolo is super sweet, and sometimes thinks she's a lap dog! She can be a little shy in new situations, but quickly warms up. She is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations for $99.
